Why is MedLifeCard needed?

The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) identifies the increased use of technology in emergency departments as paramount to the effective and appropriate care of patients. The nation's 5,000 hospital emergency rooms are now operating at critical capacity, serving more than 100 million individuals annually. Many emergency departments are looking to advances in technology to improve patient care as well as measurably improve efficiency and use of resources. ACEP suggests that the application of technology has the potential to transform the practice of emergency medicine. It also cites that "improvements in technology-especially information technology for the storage, communication and analysis of data-are one facet of a multi-pronged strategy to address the stressed emergency medical care system." The core of the MedLifeCard system is the Internet server where individual patient files are stored and available for retrieval. Today, emergency rooms and many ambulance services have access to the Internet. Most also have access to USB ported PCs. In discussing the future of technology in emergency medicine, the ACEP suggests that all medical personnel involved in caring for a patient will be working from the same electronic medical record. It is in this effort that MedLifeCard can provide an optimal solution.
